<description>Rallies are viewed as institutions of freedom of speech/expression. I am all for these rights. Being a vocal person (well, in my view that is c:), I am fiercely protective of my right to speak out/express myself.

However, there is such a thing as making one's speech or expression Effective. Observe that when a person wishes to persuade, such persuasion does Not become effective when 1) one Merely Makes Noise, 2) when one abuses his/her freedom of speech/expression to the point of absurdity or boring everybody to tears, as the case may be. --&#62;These cover situations where: Speech is hackneyed, speech is redundant, speech is incoherent, speech is not accompanied by true intent to effect change-when speech is "empty". These are situations where speech/expression are merely for the sake of. Wala, para lang masabing critical ka o kaya may pinaglalaban ka, ganyan.

Did you guys go to the Fair, I think it was a Thursday, SisFire 4?

Well, there was this band that came onstage and started shouting obscenities at UP. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt...maybe they were trying to convey like, a critique or whatever. But all they managed to do was piss people off. And their reputation became: Those f*&#38;^%rs that ruined our whole night.

Why was their expression/speech Not effective? First of all, cussing onstage is so passe. Second, it was during a fair when everybody expected music - okay, be like RATM or Dicta License and churn out political songs but Them, they did Not play any darn song, ergo their avenue for their speech/expression was improper. In line with this, there were children in the audience...they did not consider the rights of others Not to be assaulted verbally. Third, well, they were incoherent. To make a point across, one should actually, construct a sentence.

I leave it up to you guys to decipher the analogy. But these are the reasons why for me, Some rallies Do Not Work.
